The N.C. House devoted much of its attention this week to approval of a $20.3 billion General Fund budget. John Locke Foundation Director of Education Studies Terry Stoops discussed the education portion of that budget during an appearance on News 14 Carolina’s statewide “Capital Tonight” program. Director of Communications Mitch Kokai also discussed House budget ideas with WTVD Television. Speaking of television and budgets, WECT interviewed Policy Analyst Michael Lowrey about his annual By The Numbers survey of local government tax-and-fee burdens.

Kokai recapped budget highlights for Curtis Wright on WAAV/WFNC Radio, while Stoops earned additional airtime this week on Minnesota Public Radio. He debated Richard Kahlenberg of the Century Foundation about the best way to raise student achievement among low-income children.

Vice President for Outreach Becki Gray shared her political and policy insights this week on WTSB Radio, and she will discuss major 2013 policy issues during a breakout session Saturday at the N.C. Republican Party state convention. Gray attracted attention this week from Americans for Tax Reform, which highlighted her Locker Room blog entry criticizing new dental regulations under consideration in the General Assembly.

Vice President for Research and Resident Scholar Roy Cordato devoted his latest appearance with Chad Adams on WLTT Radio to discussion of the economy, Keynesian vs. supply-side theories, the European crisis, and President Obama’s failed policies. Cordato also discussed tax reform and supply-side economics with Mike Beitler on the “Free Markets” Internet radio program.

JLF President John Hood discussed the budget and other legislative and political news as he hit the road this week for a Hickory Rotary Club luncheon speech. N.C. Senate Republicans promoted Hood’s columns on North Carolina political polling and the forced annexation fight, along with an interview he granted Carolina Journal Radio on Beverly Perdue’s actions as a lame-duck governor.
