With Republican Rick Gunn holding a narrow lead over incumbent Sen. Tony Foriest in the District 24 race, the ad war really heats up:

Responding to questions from the Times-News, Foriest said he is “embarrassed about” and “absolutely flabbergasted” by some of the glossy brochure-type ads that have come out against him, including one that superimposes his head on a baby’s body. “They’re just not in good taste, and it sends a message relative to the kind of people that are behind the Gunn campaign and to Mr. Gunn himself. “

Foriest acknowledged that “a lot of” the negative ads are not coming directly from Gunn. “But if he was opposed to what they’re sending out, I think he could let them know and they would stop doing it. But he didn’t do that — he had the opportunity to do it and he didn’t do it. So, I don’t know what to take from that.”

In terms of conservative effectiveness, Civitas ranked Foriest 33rd out of 100 senators.
