Last year, the U.S. Department of Education administered the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) economics test to 11,500 twelfth-grade students. The test assessed students’ knowledge of the market economy, the national economy, and the international economy. Here are a few sample questions released earlier this year.
The test results are in. Approximately 42 percent performed at the proficient level or higher. Students knew less about the national economy than the market or international economies.
