Commenting on Jonathan Kozol’s new book “The Shame of a Nation,” Nathan Glazer comments,

Jonathan Kozol has been writing books rather similar to this one since “Death at an Early Age” in 1968.

Glazer is right. Here are the features of a Kozol book, so you do not have to actually read one:

1) Inner city kids are the victims and their schools are destitute.

2) Inner city schools perform poorly because those privileged suburbs get all the money.

3) A cost-per-student comparison is made between a suburban and inner city school to show all of the unfairness.

4) More stories of inner city kids are included.

5) The suburbs are blamed a few more times.

6) The conclusion: more government and a healthy dose of collectivism.
