As clayj mentioned in the comments on the previous post on this subject, NBC had decided to run the “controversial” pro-troop ads posted below. (Drudge hinted at the move earlier today but I wanted to wait for a confirming story to link.)

“We have reviewed and changed our ad standards guidelines and made the decision that our policy will apply to content only and not to a referenced Web site. Based on these amended standards the Freedom’s Watch ad will begin to run as early as Sunday.”

You have to wonder what gets into corporate big cheeses in situations like this. Only woefully out of touch execs could have decided that these two ads were controversial, and only seriously deranged execs would think they could squelch them with impunity in the New Media age, especially after running an abhorrent MoveOn.org ad that cynically uses the name of the valiant dead, for whom when they care nothing.

I give NBC no thanks or congratulations for “seeing the light.” Their second decision was as craven as the first one.

UPDATE: The NBC lawyer who nixed the ads is a big donor to Democrats. Does this surprise anyone?

The NBC lawyer who refused to allow a non-profit group to air an advertisement thanking American troops for their service has donated at least $45,000 to a host of Congressional Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, New York Senator Hillary Clinton and the campaign committees of House and Senate Democrats, research by the Majority Accountability Project (www.majorityap.com) has found.

How slimy can the conspiracy between Democrats and the media get? (h/t Michelle)
