Fees for driver’s license records and car and truck registrations will increase 25%, and other motor vehicle fees will also increase to go into a Mobility Fund that will pay for mass transit, light rail, and other forms of transportation that can’t pay for themselves, in addition to roads. Cars are to transportation what football is to major university athletics – what pays for everything else that people like, but never gets the love from those who like the other things.

Those fees start at $72.6 million for the $95 million fund, but recurring deposits into the Mobility Fund are expected to climb to $300 million by FY 2013.
