North Carolina teachers are paid pretty darn well, drawing salaries that “refute the cliché that North Carolina has underpaid schoolteachers who are victims of miserly, unappreciative, and ignorant taxpayers.”

With that in mind, JLF’s Terry Stoops recommends shifting toward a merit-pay system sucha as Guilford County’s Mission Possible program, which he describes as “as an excellent model for what a high-quality merit pay program should look like.”
