Teacher union watchdog Mike Antonucci reports that the N.C. Association of Educators posted a 6 percent decrease in membership between 2017 and 2018. It was the third-largest year-to-year membership decline in the nation.
According to annual financial disclosure reports for the Internal Revenue Service, the NCAE had 28,725 members and $5.7 million in total revenue in 2018. It had net assets of over $2 million during that year.
It will be interesting to see if the Red4Ed protests attracted new members to our state NEA affiliate. We will know more about that later this year when the 2019 reports become available.
