The North Carolina Family Policy Council has publicized the State Board of Education’s questionable proposed standards for counselor education programs. According to the NCFPC,

On September 26, the NCFPC sent a letter to members of the Board alerting them to the fact that the terms ?sex role orientation,? ?gender identification,? and ?sexual orientation? used in the proposed standards for school counselors and school social workers are vague and undefined, and therefore could be interpreted in a very broad manner.

The N&O’s article reported,

“The North Carolina Family Policy Council agrees wholeheartedly that each person should be respected,” the organization’s lawyer, Jere Z. Royall, said in a letter last month to board Chairman Howard Lee. “However, not all forms of diversity should be supported.”

Of course, the State Board’s concern is not the policy itself. They are concerned that passing a policy that appears to support sexual liberality will strengthen the homeschooling and school choice efforts. Parents may decide to vote with their feet if they believe that public schools are condoning behavior and morality in conflict with their own beliefs.
