Nelda Holder of the Mountain Xpress raised concerns about what she calls “model bills.” These are boilerplate proposals for legislation that have been introduced in multiple states. Holder correctly observes the model bills are a sly form of expanding federal control. Oddly, the bulk of them are only intended to reinforce what should be guaranteed by the Constitution, anyway. They include the Health Care Protection Act, deregulation of firearms, and a reigning in of early voting.
