Once the feminists finished their public flogging of Harvard
President Larry Summers for comments he made about possible
explanations for the few number of women in the hard sciences, he
committed to $50 million for efforts to help female faculty. George
Leef, writing in the online forum of the National Association of
Scholars, noted the absurdity of the effort, which reportedly will
include the creation of a new administrative job from which, no doubt
will come periodic reports saying Harvard “isn’t yet diverse enough.”
Efforts like this, he concluded, “are little more than symbolic
gestures designed to appease vocal interest groups with apparent
concern about the bundle of grievances that animate them.”
