By a unanimous vote, the State Board of Education voted to create a charter school review committee. Despite what Howard Lee says about it, the purpose of the committee will be to look for new ways to regulate charter schools.

The board also voted unanimously to eliminate the Charter School Advisory Committee (CSAC), which is responsible for authorization and oversight of the state’s charter schools. A handful of members from the CSAC will be moved into the State Board of Education’s new “Leadership for Innovation” standing committee. This move will also strengthen the State Board’s power over charter schools.
