The N&R reports the Guilford County Board of Education could announce the new superintendent of schools by Friday, while the High Point Enterprise says the board is expected to announce its decision at tonight’s meeting.

I realize the board wants the new superintendent in place by the Aug 26 start of school, which is obviously not that far away. But the puiblic has only known who the finalists (Mo Green and Shirley Prince) since Monday and only heard from them publicly for two hours last night. It’s reasonable to assume the board will not have adequate input form the public if it makes a decision this quickly.

For what it’s worth, I was forwarded an e-mail sent to board mebers from a concerned Char-Meck parent:

Based on only my personal experience with Mo Green as a parent with kids in CMS I could not offer a recommendation. Over a six month period I included Mo Green in ten emails concerning CMS shorting our middle schools on arts teachers and he never answered any of the emails personally. He did at last ask a PR/planning type person to respond and tell me that he and Superintendent Gorman were not going to change the teacher allocations and that they didn’t need to follow the NC Standard Course of Study. I was greatly disappointed in his response to my concerns and a reply email questioning many of the positions taken was also not answered.

I will continue to advocate for equitable allocation of a complete group of arts teachers for all CMS middle schools in spite of the lack of concern and support of Mo Green.

What jumped out about Prince was the fact that, under her leadership, “Scotland County students who qualify for Medicaid will receive dental care at school next year.”

What’s up with that? Is it a true function of the school system?
