Among the new opinions released this morning from the N.C. Court of Appeals:

  • A unanimous three-judge panel upheld a lower-court ruling dismissing an election protest against 1st District U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield.
  • A unanimous three-judge panel affirmed a lower-court ruling favoring Halifax Regional Medical Center in a lawsuit involving the hospital’s efforts to recover more than $100,000 from a doctor who left the county after the second year of a three-year agreement to work in Halifax County.
  • A unanimous three-judge panel affirmed a lower-court ruling against Wilson County in a lawsuit involving a man injured after falling down steps at a county building. The appellate ruling means the man’s widow can proceed with her case against the county.
  • A unanimous three-judge panel reversed a lower-court ruling and favored the N.C. Division of Employment Security in a Northampton County dispute involving a man who claimed unemployment benefits after quitting his job because his employer was replacing his company car with a vehicle allowance.
