I totally agree with Guarino that Greensboro’s new PAC is targeting the wrong City Council members. Note, however, in the sidebar poll question that they are targeting council members Mike Barber and Sandra Anderson Groat in addition to Mary Rakestraw and Trudy Wade.

Why council member Zack Matheny — who flipped on the vote to fire City Manager Mitchell Johnson — isn’t on the list is a mystery. With that in mind, I’ll note it was Matheny who dug up that relic from Greensboro’s past —-the Klan-Nazi shootings —- during the recorded closed session discussing Johnson’s fate. Note also that council member Goldie Wells —not seeking reelection but also not on Stand-Up Greensboro’s list — joined Matheny in evoking Nov. 4, 1979.

Pretty awkward introduction, too, linking Rakestraw with Elizabeth Dole before backpeddaling and saying they’re not affiliated with any political party. And when you take a look at Stand-Up Greensboro’s issues, you see the same old stuff — Smart Growth, public transportation (see post below), “public-private” partnerships and economic incentives, not to mention the old classic liberal talking point —- “diversity.”

This is going to be very interesting and certainly will provide good fodder for Greensboro’s conservative bloggers.
