Berger Comments on Basnight?s Career
Raleigh, N.C. ? Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) made the following statement regarding Senator Marc Basnight?s (D-Dare) retirement from the General Assembly:
?Senator Marc Basnight has served with distinction for 28 years in the North Carolina Senate. During that time, Senator Basnight defined the office of Senate President Pro Tempore. Senator Basnight?s respect for the institution has never been more apparent than during the current transition process. The grace, respect, and cooperation he and his staff have shown Republicans will be the standard by which all future transitions are measured.
?I believe Senator Basnight’s lasting legacy will be as an unwavering proponent of higher education and a champion of access to a higher education. In large part because of Senator Basnight?s leadership and efforts, the University of North Carolina is the best public university system in the country.?
