This looks like a lawyers’ bill. I agree that people should not bear false witness against their neighbor. Better, big people should talk about ideas rather than people. Still, people make the events that bloggers cover, and it is very easy for people to misunderstand each other. For example, if you Google my name, you will find out that I believe UFO aliens gave the military secrets to antigravity. It stems from a string of left-handed compliments I wrote for a review after my boss rejected what I really thought about the book. If I could blow tens of thousands of dollars on litigation without feeling it, I might restore my lily-white ego. As it is, I let it ride. If this law were to be enacted, I suspect those with money could come clean, and those without would have to bear the brunt of dufus remarks, which would appear more credible since the law would supposedly be protecting everybody from libel.
