This editorial in The News of Orange County makes it clear the paper’s staff can’t wait to endorse higher taxes. In May the county will put on the ballot an increase in the sales tax and/or the land transfer tax. Check out the curious wording the editorial uses to describe the relationship between county government and the folks paying the tax bills (emphasis is mine), as well as the tone that clearly suggests higher taxes are inevitable.

Whether either of the taxes pass will be up to voters. But they need to know that the taxes are being offered as a way to get what outgoing Finance Director Chavious suggested is needed relief from escalating property taxes. Take it from the guy who probably knows best — we can’t always have our cake and eat it too.

Since higher taxes “are being offered,” when will the county “offer” its residents some fiscal restraint?
