The Bryson City Fire Department failed its state insurance inspection for failing to respond to false alarms. The department frequently stopped short of arriving on the scene of a false alarm to shorten its carbon footprint and spend time and taxpayer dollars wisely. However, the state requires responding fire companies to continue to the scene of a false alarm, to make sure they are not dealing with a false false alarm. If they only do not respond to a potential false false alarm once, it’s game over for the inspection. Failing the inspection has caused the Bryson City FD to be put on probation, and may cause homeowners’ insurance premiums to rise.
