Both macro and micro trends indicate that newspapers — as currently formulated — are not long for this Earth.

The Uptown paper of record has grown amazingly thin in recent days. I find myself reading one or two stories online and not even cracking the dead tree version open before it goes into the recycle bin. There is just nothing there.

Yesterday 18 pages across three sections are anchored by perhaps 1.5 pages of display ads, the 10-page A section has perhaps two pages of ads.
