If you’ve wondered why Newsweek decided to put the Duke lacrosse story on the cover this week, save your $3.95.
Here’s the explanation from editor Mark Whitaker:
We decided to put the Duke case on the cover partly because of the larger themes it touches: the “jockocracy” on so many college campuses, the tensions between “town and gown,” the politics of race and class, and how tabloid stories inflame the media, and vice versa.
I know Jon Ham has to have a great response to this quote.
