Interesting spin on the Homeland Security grant money flap. Congress is howling about a DHS funding formula that took money away from New York City and Washington, DC and routed it elsewhere. Newsweek notes elsewhere means places like Charlotte.

The magazine cites Charlotte’s $3.5 million increase in anti-terror funding as result of “a combination of secrecy, political tone-deafness and noble intentions gone awry.” Could be, but does Newsweek know about Mayor Pat McCrory’s role as Homeland Security local gov point-man? Our mayor knows how to play a mean Task Force.

Seriously, Homeland Security is a mess, the grant-making process especially so. But Charlotte is pretty unique from an infrastructure point-of-view, sandwiched between two nuclear power plants. Then again, there is something fundamentally wrong with assuming more money automatically means more terror protection, and vice versa.

At least Newsweek didn’t confuse us with Charleston.
