Next up in the parade of Speaker Jim Black’s cronies facing justice is Alan Middleton. Middleton is the former vice president and lobbyist for Scientific Games. He is charged with two misdemeanor counts. Prosecutors say Middleton lobbied for six weeks before registering with the state and that he aided illegal lobbying by Scientific Games employee and former Black aide, Meredith Norris.

Norris pleaded no contest to similar charges in August. A judge sentenced Norris to one year of unsupervised probation, 75 hours of community service, $700 in fines and fees, and a ban on lobbying in the state for two years.

Middleton’s trial is expected to start next week in Raleigh.
