I was dorking around on the computer looking for some historical information about Holbrook, AZ, and chanced upon their city council agendas. I looked at their budget and was astonished. It spoke of nuts and bolts, using words I could understand like “cleaning supplies,” and “vehicle parts.” It even broke down wages in terms of how many people were splitting departmental payroll. I’m not saying it is a perfect budget, but it gave me a bit of joy to be able to create pictures in my mind with the words, as opposed to spasing out in a sea of PC abstraction and obfuscation.
