There are some great bloggers out there keeping track of the Duke lacrosse case and DA Mike Nifong. Among them is KC Johnson of the Durham In Wonderland blog. In a post today he reminds me of an amazing statement by Nifong on ESPN last spring. I heard it at the time and didn’t believe my ears:
One would wonder why one needs an attorney if one was not charged and had not done anything wrong.
This is almost a Soviet view of civil liberties. Which, as I think about it, may be very appealing to a broad cross-section of Durham.
