The Haywood County Commissioners are considering building a $10.3 million Creative Arts building for the community college. They’re not so sure they want to spend all the money generated from the new quarter-cent tax over the next fifteen years on a single project.

Fifty people supporting the building came to a public hearing August 16. They claimed the building will be an inspiring, green magnet for economic multipliers. Opponents alleged artists do not normally make enough to support a family, the green components of the building make it way too expensive, and the current economy is not supporting construction.
