You may have picked up on the fact that I’m no fan of the N&R. But Nancy McLaughlin’s front-pager on 18-year-old Emily Field’s battle with cancer was excellent.

Meanwhile, Ed Cone has former Tar Heel Ademola Okulaja’s battle with cancer:

Cancer or diseases, they feed off of negative energy and I just try to think positive most of the time or all of the time. I just feed my mind and my body with positive energy and then to look forward – keep planning, you’ve got to still go. Your life does not stop with that diagnosis. It keeps going.

No negative energy today, man. I’m just going to sit here in my flannel and watch the rain, at least until this afternoon when I’ll be doing the annual Beer Run. Then I’ll pack myself into Old Town Draught House with 300 other wet, smelly runners, enjoy a couple of adult beverages and watch the end of the Carolina-Florida State game, which the barkeeps have promised to TiVo while we’re slogging through the rain.

Cheers.
