Ah, yes. Street vendors selling beer are the big threat to the Uptown New Year’s Eve party Saturday night. There won’t be any of that this year. And police will be cracking down on open containers, period.

But do come down and spend your money, pay the city’s hospitality taxes inside a bar or restaurant, then go mill around outside with the gang members and wait for the fireworks. Sounds fun!

Seriously, what is it going to take for Charlotte officials to actually address real issues? There was a gang-related riot at the Fourth of July event in Uptown that had nothing to do with open containers. That is why security will be upped for Saturday night. Why not admit that?

And while we are at it, can someone at CATS or Bank of America or whoever runs the place check and make sure that all of the vaunted security cameras at the transit center are actually working? We might need to review them come Sunday morning.

Thanks.
