Watauga County leadership is considering redefining feral cats as wild animals. By doing so, authorities will be able to kill the animals instantly. As it is, the creatures must be detained at least 72 hours, posing potential hazards for animal control employees. Furthermore, Laurie Vierheller, executive director of the Watauga County Humane Society, does not believe the detention rehabilitates the creatures enough to make them adoptable. With insufficient resources, animal rescue personnel would rather work with animals they can help.
Now, for the feral children, no redefinition has been proposed, but national news was made when schools showed signs of rehabilitating the little monsters. Maybe this AP story can help you with the ferals in your life.
