The News & Observer wrote two hand-wringing editorials this morning about illegal immigration, pushing the “vulnerable young people” demagogic angle, and ridiculing those who see illegal immigration and all its associated problems as a serious issue.
They should have watched pollster Frank Luntz and the “patented Fox Dials” on “Fox & Friends” this morning. When Romney and Thompson said legal immigration was good but illegal immigration is bad, the dials went off the charts. When Giuliani equivocated, they nosedived. When Thompson said no nation that doesn’t secure it’s borders will remain sovereign, viewers almost broke the system trying to crank the dials up.
Liberals (and that certainly includes the N&O‘s editorial writers) trapped by white guilt and PC’d into submission just don’t understand the volatility of this issue. It’s easier to ridicule those with whom they disagree.
