I know someone who buys as many organic products as she can because she’s convinced they’re healthier. That’s not necessarily the case of course — as this story about the difference between eggs reveals. (emphasis is mine)
But it’s worth it to pay more because you’re getting a healthier product, right? Wrong. Most of the time, according to a just-released study by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the eggs are indistinguishable. When there is a difference, it’s often the factory eggs that are safer.
So if you want to pay more for eggs produced outside of a factory, that’s fine, but do so because you want to endorse better living conditions for hens, not because you think the eggs themselves are better for you.
