Rumors that Mecklenburg County Commissioner Normal Mitchell would get a Democratic opponent over his opposition to Nick Mackey for sheriff turn out to be kinda right — except it will not be CMS board member Vilma Leake making the challenge.
Instead it will be Constance Johnson, publisher of City Political and other magazines.
In recent weeks Johnson has become a vocal defender of Mackey, whom she sees as a victim of racial bias. Mitchell, in contrast, has repeatedly rejected that view, citing Mackey’s lack of qualifications for the job and sketchy personal past.
Should be fun.
