According to the Daily Caller, North Carolina managed only a single county in the list of the nation’s 20 most conservative-friendly counties. Georgia, on the other hand, contributed four counties to the list, more than any other state.

Union County, birthplace of Jesse Helms, was the Tar Heel state’s lone county in the list, ranking 16th. Here’s what the Daily Caller had to say:

Charlotte is the most conservative of North Carolina’s major cities, and the nearby suburb of Union County is even more so. The communities on the border nearest Charlotte are among the richest in the U.S., while the rest of the county is moderately prosperous. The most famous native is Jesse Helms, whose father was Monroe’s police chief.

No. 20 on the list was Sarah Palin’s Matanuska-Susitna Borough in Alaska. No. 1 was Williamson County, the wealthiest county in America and home to country music stars from nearby Nashville.
