The latest Newsweek suggests that the Indiana primary is the most important electoral prize left for the two Democratic presidential contenders.

John Hood agrees on the date ? May 6 ? but disagrees on the state. You’ll remember that John has called the North Carolina race “the contest” for Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

John sticks with his assessment, telling me this morning: “In order for Clinton?s scenario to work ? approaching or exceeding Obama in the popular vote, thus giving her a pitch to the superdelegates ? she has to gain hundreds of thousands of votes in Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, and the midwestern states while keeping Obama from canceling out much of that in North Carolina. A win would be spectacular, but even making the North Carolina race close would serve.”
