Education Week‘s Diplomas Count 2011 study tracked statewide graduation rate increases from 1998-2008.  North Carolina’s increase (15.4 percent) was second only to Tennessee (20.0 percent) and far outpaced the national average (6.1 percent).  New York, Florida, and New Jersey round out the top five states.

North Carolina posted an impressive increase, but we still do not know what produced it.  Keep this in mind when folks credit their favorite initiatives and criticize Republicans for cutting, changing, or eliminating “effective” programs.
