In response to a new Annie E. Casey Foundation report, The KIDS COUNT Data BookNews & Observer editors write,

These findings, released this week and reported by WRAL, should disturb all North Carolinians. The report should bother the state’s leaders, Gov. Pat McCrory and those who run the General Assembly. And it must prompt some fact-finding and soul-searching.

It’s both funny and sad how their first instinct is to identify government as the cure for the problem of childhood poverty, malnourishment, etc.

Why not call on churches, non-profit and faith-based organizations, businesses, and communities to work together to improve living conditions for the most vulnerable populations in the state?
