I don’t see in either the N&R write-up or the news release exactly how the SEC got tipped off to Oak Ridge Military Academy basketball coach Stan Kowalewski’s alleged hedge fun fraud.
But remember how the feds got wind of G’boro ultramaronthoner Charlie Engle, who’s going to prison for fraud —an IRS agent read about Engle and wondered how he could afford his adventurous lifestyle.
So Stan Kowalewski leaves Northern Guilford under suspicious circumstances involving the team fund, then it’s in the paper a year later that he’s spending millions on the Oak Ridge hoops program. More than a few people read that and wondered exactly how it was going down.
The lesson here is the feds read the paper.
