Buried down in this Lenoir News Topic story about the increasing percentage of NC households with access to high-speed Internet is yet another tale of how previous public subsidies have had rather little to do with the trend:

In the past, the county has received $12,000 in grant money from the e-NC Authority to set up two Internet access points in the county, one at the St. Paul AME Church and the other at Patterson School.

Thuss said that the site at the church was not successful. “It just never did blossom and bloom,” said Thuss. He said that the Internet site at the school is operational but the public has not taken advantage of it.
