Don Carrington’s investigative work has paid off again. This week, his
CJ Exclusive
discredited claims by Sen. Tony Rand that the state must
continue making a $1.6 million per year appropriation to the Global
TransPark or be forced to pay back $21.6 million in federal grants for improvements and a runway extension. The claim was
attributed to Rand in a recent Triangle Business Journal
story. But
Carrington spoke to Scott Seritt, manager of the FAA Airports District
Office in Atlanta, who said that’s not the case  and added this:
“As long as the airport stays open to the public we really have no
issue as to who the sponsor is,” he said. Carrington’s story turned up in “Spin Cycle,” the weekly
electronic newsletter distributed by “NC Spin’s” Tom Campbell.
