Pssst — Wanna know a secret?

NASCAR makes a lot of money. Shhh, don’t tell anyone.

That’s gotta be a secret, right? Why else would Charlotte rush to spend taxpayer money to build and subsidize the operation of a NASCAR Hall of Fame? BTW, the extent of the operating subsidy for the Hall really is a state secret, meaning the public is not allowed to know what exactly city leaders have on the table.

But the big picture is clear. An entertainment conglomerate about to sign a $4.4 billion TV contract has absolutely no claim on the public purse, certainly not millions of dollars.

If NASCAR princeling Brian France wants welfare he needs to get in line at the Daytona food stamp office.
