I received an e-mail from the “outraged girl” mocked in the class that became my latest Course of the Month. She writes:

I believe that I am the “outraged girl” written about in the postings on the Wolf Web. Until class today, I was unaware of your article discussing a liberal bias in the university setting. In order to clarify some remarks posted on the website, I would like to inform you that the comments I made were directed to the person sitting to my left and the person behind me, both of whom are my close friends. As a political science major and the daughter of a retired military officer, I was “outraged” at the idea that people are still simplifying the very complicated conflict in Iraq to a war for oil. I also expressed my frustration at constantly being innundated with left-wing ideology in my courses. Nothing more. I respect President Bush as the leader of my nation and of the free world. I support the free exchange of ideas in the classroom and on the World Wide Web, no matter how inflammatory they may be. As a sociology student, I find it interesting that my comments can spawn three pages of ranting about whether or not I display a “Jesus fish” on my SUV and other unrelated matters and provide the impetus for articles such as yours. Kudos for drawing attention to this issue.
