A gang of black youths beat up a white man and it’s caught on video. Note that neither the TV news report nor the newspaper story mentions the race of the victim or the attackers. There is no speculation that this might be motivated by racial hate, the first assumption if whites attack blacks. Even the cop says in the TV interview that the thugs beat the guy “just because.”
Police suspect the same group has attacked other people, but no mention is made of the other victims’ race, no, it’s not racial. Imagine if the demographics were switched. The story line would be “bad economy forces white, working-class thugs to abandon their Bibles and beat up black people.”
When will the media realize how much of a double standard it uses in covering these stories?
UPDATE: Some arrests have been made. But police still haven’t a clue as to motivation:
The sheriff said he doesn’t know if race played a role in the attacks since all of the suspects are black and the victims are white. He said he cannot imagine that the people driving on North River Road said anything to incite such an attack.
