Notre Dame standards too high for “the black athlete”?

Football great Paul Hornung sparked controversy when he said in a radio interview that his alma mater, Notre Dame, needs to lower its academic standards to “get the black athlete.”

Fortunately for Hornung, Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor agreed with him, but she was able to quench any potential conflagration when she announced that Notre Dame would only need to lower its academic standards for just the next 25 years.
