OK, I’ve never believed the proposed quarter-cent sales tax would bring about “property tax relief.” But I always thought proponents were trying to tell us property taxes would go down if it passed. What an idiot I am.

In today’s N&R, Citizens for a Better Guilford co-chairs Jim Morgan and Shirley Frye write a “property tax increase would still be necessary if the sales tax increase passes, but it wouldn’t be as great”, while Greensboro Partnership guys Pat Danahy and Lee McAllister say “by supporting the quarter-cent sales tax, we reduce the increase in property taxes and ensure our community property taxes remain competitive.”

Right from the horse’s mouth. We pass the sales tax and property taxes still go up, just not as much. I get it now.

Uh, no. JLF’s Michael Sanera says why.

No surprise, the N&R endorses.
