Hey good for the N&R for exposing 2013 as the ‘year of the open wallet.’ Only problem is every item on the local paper of record’s 2014 wish list involves —you guessed it –opening the wallet.
Meanwhile business reporter Richard Barron looks back on 2013:
For the Triad’s economy, 2013 was a year of dreaming big — and sometimes coming up empty.
We looked to the skies for salvation and found none.
We launched a mix of megasites.
We kicked off plans for Guilford County’s “Project Haystack,” which could turn the 600-acre prison farm into a 2,000-acre park for data centers and manufacturers.
We kept up our spirits with the small blessings — lower unemployment and higher home sale numbers.
And we saw signs of life when long-dormant developers made plans for hotels and apartments.
As they say in sports, 2013 was a rebuilding year.
