No lie, honest to goodness truth: When I wrote this post questionning Margaret Banks’ investigative reporting skills, I was going to suggest that the N&R move her and replace on the city government beat with necomer Brian Ewing. But I didn’t want to be that presumptuous.

We learn today, however, that Banks is now the assistant sports editor. N&R editor John Robinson writes (with a straight face):

Margaret is ready. She has covered city hall for nearly two years and has also been a religion reporter, a general assignment reporter and a reporter in Rockingham County. No direct sports coverage experience? We’re in interesting times and that calls for interesting experiences. She’s got ’em.

I don’t know for a fact Ewing’s taken over the city beat, but he wrote last week’s stories on possible problems within the Greensboro Fire Department. He’s been grinding it out covering city government in Reidsville, so he’d be the best fit.

And good luck, Margaret Banks, sincerely. I acknowledge you have not had an easy job the past couple of years.
