The N&R supports Rep. Mel Watt’s nomination as director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency(emphasis mine):

The Senate should give Watt’s nomination a prompt hearing and fair consideration. Senators should evaluate Watt’s ability to carry out Obama administration policies rather than divide over political ideology.

Watt, 67, has served faithfully in Congress for 20 years. Moving up to this federal post suits his interests and areas of expertise and would make a fine way for him to cap his career. The step also would create an opportunity for 12th District voters to choose a new representative.

The Senate should not keep everyone waiting.

An interesting statement considering the fact that Obama administration policies are pretty much based on political ideology. Meanwhile the Business Journal speculates Watt will face a tough Senate confirmation hearing and compiles a not-so-short-list of those lining for Watt’s seat, including former Guilford County Commission Chairman Skip Alston.
