Today’s N&R profiles U.S. Senate candidates Kay Hagan and Jim Neal. Pretty standard human interest profiles featuring Hagan’s childhood memories of chucking water melons on her grandfather’s farm and Neal’s attempt to enhance his “local culinary cred” with a diet of Bojangles ham biscuits and coffee.

The issues were reduced to a sidebar, with more issue-oriented articles surely to follow. I took note of Hagan’s response to a question about the FISA bill when she said “it depends on which amendment you’re looking at and which bill you’re looking at, and we’ve got to look at all of that and see what’s best for North Carolina.”

The FISA bill’s truly a national issue, isn’t it, not one that can affect one state more than another? The point is Hagan’s response sounds somewhat canned.
