The N&R reports:
The Triad’s nine transit systems handle fewer than 1 percent of residents’ daily commutes and other trips throughout the region.
But better coordination among the bus systems could boost that number to 5 percent, transportation consultant Brian Piascik told the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation in a report Wednesday.
There you have it. Someone other than a John Locke Foundation whack job is pointing out that transportation spending far outweighs usage.
But here’s my question about the suggested regional transportation call center: Would it be part of or in addition to PART’s new $17 million headquarters? How about Greensboro Transit Authority’s new $20 million facility?
Update: Even if the Triad did reach the magic 5 percent, we’d still be behind Europe’s number of mass transit users. But not by much.
