jjThe Uptown paper of record’s newish Paid to Party chick is asking why Daddy’s American Bar and Grill crashed and burned.

Sarah Aarthun calls it “the latest casualty of the cursed corner of Fifth and Church streets” and notes that City Tavern, Twist, and Palladian Bistro Lounge all failed in the same spot previously.

My only experience with the place consisted of walking past once and noticing it was dead. Now I note that its menu seemed to feature over-priced crap food along with a string of dubious “events” without theme or purpose. That and its owners seemed eager to let everyone know it was “upscale-casual,” whatever the hell that might be. Aside from loud, according to Aarthun.

Let’s see what happens next with this “6,055 square foot space [that] includes a 48 foot custom-built granite bar.” Could be that Uptown rents need to come down to support this kind of use.
